Constellation Schools honored its first Outstanding Educator recipient in conjunction with celebrating the organization’s start of their 20th year. The award criteria reflects the values of our organization and includes the following evaluation categories: “Service to Students,” Service to Schools,” “Service to Families,” “Service to Community,” and “Service to Profession.” To be eligible for this award, teachers were nominated by parents; the nominations were reviewed and commented upon by the teacher’s respective principal; with a final determination being made by top administrators.

Those also being honored include Maria Hejnal and Victoria McDonough who were recognized by outside organizations during the course of the 2016-2017 school year. On May 8, 2017 Maria was honored by the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics. This distinguished award recognized her for building a sense of community not only for her class, but for the entire 6th grade at Constellation Schools: Westpark Community Middle. She partnered with our parents/guardians, setting high expectations for her students and her collaboration with our Technology Integration Coach to ensure differentiated instruction that supported the success of each of her students.

Tori was featured in the Cleveland State University Social Studies May 2017 Teacher Spotlight. As an Alumna of CSU her recognition captured her work in our organization and with our students. Her enthusiasm for student-centered education is evident as she continues her Google Gurus program to train and recognize student’s technology skills. Her positive attitude and ability to reflect on her practice demonstrates her admirable love of learning highlighting her great accomplishments. Her collaboration with colleagues offers a desired environment in which many benefit.
