During an all school assembly on Friday, September 23, Dr. Sommers, Director of 21 st Century Learning from the Governors office, recognized Constellation Schools: Old Brooklyn Community Middle for being 1 of out 5 charter schools in the state of Ohio to be rated Excellent with Distinction. “This is for you, our future. As a representative from the governor’s office, I would like to thank you for receiving the highest honor of Excellent with Distinction. Both Old Brooklyn schools are great examples of why charter schools are so popular with parents and students because the academic performance of these two schools is outstanding,” Dr. Sommers said.

Our students and staff have worked extremely hard, and the recognition of that work is greatly appreciated. We are happy to celebrate our past achievements, and we look forward to focusing on our continued success.”

Dr. Sommers and Ron Adler, Executive Director of the Oho Coalition for Quality Education, also acknowledged Constellation Schools: Old Brooklyn Community Elementary for being Excellent for 5 consecutive years. Constellation Schools: Old Brooklyn Community Elementary Principal Cherie Kaiser attributes the school’s success over the years to many factors. First, the school boasts small class sizes. Classes are limited in size which allows the school to provide more focused and differentiated instruction to students. She also believes that the teaching staff at Old Brooklyn also accounts for the success that the school is experiencing. “My staff is truly dedicated to the educational needs of the students, putting in long hours and going above and beyond what it necessary to make sure students are successful,” reports Mrs. Kaiser.

Also in attendance was Councilman Kevin Kelley who expressed his gratitude to the school by saying, “Congratulations to the teachers, staff, and students of Constellation Schools: Old Brooklyn Elementary and Middle for receiving an Excellent and Excellent with Distinction ratings. Your hard work brings strength to our community which in return helps make the community strong.”

Constellation Schools, a management company of 19 successful charter schools, is the only management company in the state of Ohio to have 1 school rated “Excellent with Distinction”, 5 rated “Excellent”, 4 rated “Effective”, and 6 rated “Continuous Improvement” by Ohio Department of Education for the 2010-2011 school year.

The performance on the 2010-2011 Ohio Achievement Assessments proves that Constellation’s schools continue to be the highest performing charter school organization in the state of Ohio. No other management company in the state has this impressive record year after year. In a little over ten years, Constellation Schools has grown from one school, 27 students, and 3 employees to nineteen schools educating more than 4,400 students, with over 550 employees.
